Walking Football Stars

The residents of our borough are taking control of their own wellbeing as part of the Deal for Health and Wellness and achieving footy stardom by appearing on Sky Sports; showcasing how they’ve been breaking traditional barriers that would have traditionally stopped them taking part in a game they love. These sessions are organised by Inspiring healthy lifestyles and are helping local people live a full, active life doing what they like to do.

Professor Kate Ardern, director for Public Health at Wigan Council described the benefits “Walking football and the efforts put in by Wigan Walkers is going a long way, not only in terms of physical health amongst older residents, but also as an enjoyable activity promoting social inclusion.”
