Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham joined health and social care leaders to witness the launch of the Alliance between all our partners on 30th April. He spoke passionately about the influential role of Wigan and said he felt 'so proud' of Wigan for blazing the trail to a more joined up and person-centred approach.
Community and voluntary sector partners showcased moving stories of how real Wigan people experience health and care services. Market stalls provided an opportunity for networking between partners and the whole event was graphically recorded by an artist.
Healther Wigan Director Rebecca Murphy said:
'This is a historic change in our approach to health and social care, breaking down barriers between public services. Working together, a talented health and care workfoce will join up health and care services around people and the places where they live.
We will take time to understand people's strengths and assets supporting them to connect to their community and be well. Joining up services will help deliver a health and social care system that is right for the 320,000 residents of the borough'.
Wigan and Leigh Warblers capitalised on the positive atmosphere by leading the whole room through vocal warm-ups and an impromptu rendition of 'Daydream Believer'.
