21st January 2019
January 2019 has got off to an exciting start with our partnership launching a new bespoke health and care experience called ‘Our Deal for a Healthier Wigan’. Building on the success of the Wigan Deal and Be Wigan experience developed by Wigan Council this innovative interactive training session will promote a whole scale approach to asset based working, where staff undertake a different conversation with residents to understand and build on their strengths, promote the use of local community assets and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health and care.
Staff from integrated teams, across the health and care workforce will come together for this experience which is underpinned by ethnographic principles and approaches. Using scenario based exercises and hearing case study examples, staff will be able to understand, using practical applications how they can best support local people to thrive and live healthy and happy lives; reducing reliance on health and care services and promoting independence.
The training is expected to see over 1,000 of the borough’s workforce in the first six months. Longer term, the partnership’s aim is to have their full workforce being trained to use this approach for the future - fully appreciating how prevention can help individuals for the long term and giving Wigan Borough residents the right conversation and best experience they can!
