Healthier Wigan

Greater Manchester Devolution

The changes that are being made here in our borough are happening across Greater Manchester as a result of devolution in 2016. The responsibility for the health and social care, and a budget of £6 Billion has transferred from government to our region. Greater Manchester along with 9 other Districts can now make decisions and spending decisions on health and social care for local people, better meeting the needs and aspirations of the people who live and work in the area.

The Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership overseeing devolution, is made up of the NHS organisations and councils in region.

Their aim is:

‘To deliver the greatest and fastest possible improvement to the health and wellbeing of the 2.8m people of Greater Manchester’
